Hampshire

Situated on the heart of the south coast, Hampshire is a popular holiday destination, offering traditional seaside resorts alongside the maritime history of its ports and the New Forest.

The county town of Hampshire is Winchester, a historic city that was once capital of the ancient kingdom of Wessex, and of England before the Norman Conquest. The remains of several old castles and forts are scattered throughout the county.

The port cities of Southampton and Portsmouth remain in Hampshire but are independent unitary authorities, as is the Isle of Wight.
